A jury found Darell Avant guilty of murdering his five-year-old son

Prosecutors are asking for the death penalty. The jury started to decide on his sentencing Monday and the court will enter their third day of this hearing on Thursday. They must choose between a life in prison or the death penalty.

Darell Avant is charged with first-degree murder, as in December 2013, he became so frustrated with his son’s bad behavior, he beat the boy until he had dozens of bruises, fractured ribs, and tears in organs.
