Hurricane Dorian: How you can help survivors in the Bahamas

Hurricane Dorian charged through the northern Bahamas this week as a Category 5 storm and stalled over the Abaco Islands and Grand Bahama Island for nearly two days.

The intense winds and torrential rains left much of the area under water with catastrophic damage.

Thousands of survivors are now without food, water, electricity and homes.

Here's how you can help with relief efforts:

  • American Red Cross- The organization is asking for monetary donations to be used to help residents in the Bahamas. More information HERE.
  • Bahamas Relief Collection at the University of Florida - UF students have organized a donation drive to help with relief efforts. You can drop off newly bought items to SW 9th ST, Gainesville, FL 3260. For more information, contact Damon Veras at damon.veras@ufl.edu. 
  • Supply drive at Tint World- Bring your donations to 2100 N. Ronald Reagan Blvd. in Longwood on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Items in demand include non-perishable food, water, baby formula, toiletries, diapers, blankets, air mattresses, and first aid kits. On Saturday, you can bring donations to Cars & Coffee Central Florida at 11920 Narcoossee Rd. in Orlando. Anyone who donates supplies will receive a free $10 Tint World gift card. 
  • World Central Kitchen - Team members are providing meals to those in the Bahamas. You can help with a monetary donation. Details HERE.
  • Bahamas Red Cross - Non-perishable goods, baby supplies, cleaning items, and bedding are the most needed donations. More information HERE. 
  • Salvation Army - The Salvation Army's Bahamas branch in Freeport is looking for donations to support their disaster response. 100 percent of donations designated for Bahama's relief will be used for Dorian recovery You can find information on how to donate HERE.
