Couch goes from trash to viral sensation

A couch that has been sitting on the side of a road in West Melbourne has become a local, viral sensation on the Internet.  When no one picked it up and took to the dump, it started to draw attention.

"Take a 'trashy' situation and make the best situation out of it," explains Mikayleigh Ryan.

Then, it made its debut on social media, and now it's trending as #TheCouch.

"A bunch of my friends were posting about it and I said 'Hey, let's go past there on the way to Walmart and check it out!' And here we are!" said Kimberly Merrick.

People started decorating around the couch, including a vacuum, a mini-fridge, and even a TV.  A steady stream of people have shown up to take pictures with this old, nasty couch on Palm Bay Road.

"I like the lava lamp myself," Merrick added.

The city said the couch is on Melbourne-Tillman Water Management District property.  The district says a nearby Walmart is actually responsible for this spot.  And so, it just sits there.
