Police investigate shooting in tourism district

ORLANDO, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - A man is recovering in the hospital after police say he was shot during an armed robbery outside a motel.

Orlando Police say the shooting happened outside the Super 8 on American Way Blvd. just after 8 Monday night.

Police say the suspect is accused of robbing a man at gunpoint and shooting him in the stomach.

The victim, 40, sustained non-life threatening injuries.

Orlando Police on Wednesday morning said that the suspect, identified as Bruce Smith, was arrested on charges of Attempted First Degree Murder with a Firearm, Robbery with a Firearm, and Shooting a Man at the Super 8 Hotel on American Way. 

Smith was released from prison in October. His history includes 46 felony charges.
