Police: Man admits to burying friend in backyard after he died of an overdose

Authorities are investigating after they said a man admitted to burying his friend in the backyard of his Orange County home after he died of an overdose.

Greg Palmero told police about 2 months ago, he tried saving his friend, now identified as 27-year-old Brandon Boone, after he overdosed on fentanyl or heroin.

Unfortunately, Boone died.

Instead of calling police, Palmero said he buried his friend 9-feet deep in his backyard. He said his friend jokingly said earlier in the day he wouldn't mind.

Palmero also said deputies frequently come to his house and he was afraid of what would happen to him.

He came clean when deputies showed up at his house to investigate a possible meth lab.

"I made a bad decision and I freaked out and I said I guess I'll bury him in the back yard," Palmero said, adding that he tried saving his friend with CPR. "I was scared of this cop. He scared the bejesus out of me and I didn't want him taking the ball and running with it."

Palmero said that he's very sorry to Boone's family.

The Orange County Sheriff's Office is calling this a death investigation right now.

Still no word on if Palmero will face charges.
