Portion of Alafaya to close as S.R. 408 widens

Alafaya Trail is scheduled to close in both directions overnight on Sunday, July 29th.

The Central Florida Expressway Authority says that Alafaya Trail is scheduled to close in both directions approaching State Road 408 (Spessard L. Holland East-West Expressway) overnight on Sunday, July 29th from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. for bridge work.

During the detours, they say that drivers on southbound Alafaya Trail will have to get on westbound State Road 408, exit at Rouse Road, and then get back on eastbound State Road 408 to return to southbound Alafaya Trail. Tolls at the Rouse Road ramp plaza will be suspended during the detour.

They also said that drivers on northbound Alafaya Trail will be directed to take Lake Underhill Road to Woodbury Road, then east on Waterford Lakes Parkway to get back to northbound Alafaya Trail.

This is part of the 3.24-mile road widening project on State 408, which began on October 16th. The goal is to relieve congestion between State Road 417 (Central Florida GreeneWay) and east of Alafaya Trail, thus providing an easier ride to those traveling to and from the University of Central Florida.

This $76 million project is expected to be complete in late 2019.
