ORLANDO, Fla. – On behalf of its Selection Committee, Florida Citrus Sports’ Chairman Ken Potrock and CEO Steve Hogan announced today that the Michigan Wolverines (9-3, 6-2 Big 10) have been selected to play the Florida Gators (10-3, 7-1 SEC) in the 2016 Buffalo Wild Wings Citrus Bowl. The 70th edition of the game will take place on January 1st at the Orlando Citrus Bowl Stadium at 1:00 p.m.
The game marks the first time the Wolverines and the Gators have faced each other since the 2008 Buffalo Wild Wings Citrus Bowl, when Michigan won the 62nd edition of the game, 41-35, in Lloyd Carr’s final game as the Wolverines head coach. Michigan has won both meetings in the all-time series dating back to 2002.
Michigan makes its fifth trip to the Buffalo Wild Wings Citrus Bowl after winning nine games this season, its highest win total since 2007.
Florida won its first SEC East Championship since 2009, and make its sixth trip to Buffalo Wild Wings Citrus Bowl all-time.
