'Orlando Apollos' announced as upcoming Alliance of American Football team

The Alliance of American Football (AAF) announced on their website that Orlando will soon have a football team, officially named the 'Orlando Apollos.'

A writer for the alliance wrote that the team takes its name form Apollo, the Greek god of sun and light, depicted with an arrow pointing East toward Florida. The writer also said that the warm Florida sunshine is reflected in the orange hues in the Orlando Apollos logo.

Going more into the meaning behind the name, the AAF writer says that the team's name summons the energy and power of the sun and an aim for the stars.

The Apollos are described by the writer as precision marksmen certain of their arrows, befitting a Steve Spurrier-coached offense.

Roster signings are said to currently be underway and the Apollos will begin playing in February, a week after the Super Bowl.
