Martin Riese is a water sommelier in Los Angeles, CA.
"I realized when I created my water menu that a lot of people could not really understand what I'm doing," Riese said.
He offers water tastings at places like Ray's and Stark Bar at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the Patina Restaurant.
Get this, his tastings cost $50 a person.
"…They thought, like, come on Martin, it's water, it looks all the same - different shapes of bottles - but when you're looking at the glass, it looks pure, there is no color, there's no odor, so there cannot be any differences," Riese said. "And I thought, OK, I need to teach some people to make them understand why water actually has taste."
Some of the water offerings include Danish Glacier, Roi and Hollywood 90H20.
According to Euromonitor International, U.S. consumers spent $18.8 billion on bottled water last year, which is more than any other nation.
