Volusia beaches expecting high tide, rip currents during busy weekend

Volusia County's Beach Safety Division expects strong rip currents and high tides throughout Mother's Day weekend.

Beach Safety is reminding beach goers to swim in front of an open lifeguard tower for their safety.

Lifeguards may also be forced to close the beach to vehicle traffic for a number of hours each day due to the midday high tides expected to creep in.

Officials are encouraging people to arrive early to gain easier access and to be prepared to move their cars.

Parents with young children are also encouraged to pick up RES-Q bracelets.

People can write their names and numbers on the bracelets and if their child goes missing, it will allow Beach Safety staff to more easily reunite them.
