Norovirus at South Florida school sickens dozens of students
BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. (AP) - Officials say norovirus at a South Florida elementary school is causing a lot of students to miss class.
Florida Department of Health spokesman Timothy O'Conner says that since Wednesday, at least 100 children a day have been missing class at Citrus Grove Elementary School in Boynton Beach.
Over 180 students were absent Monday, and over 250 students called out sick Friday.
Palm Beach County School District spokeswoman Kathy Burstein tells the South Florida Sun Sentinel (http://bit.ly/22gKan7 ) that most students are staying home sick but a handful have been sent home after experiencing norovirus-like symptoms.
Norovirus is a gastrointestinal illness that causes diarrhea, vomiting and stomach cramps.
