Police completed their search of Orange County Global Medical Center around 11 a.m. Tuesday without finding any sign of a person with a weapon, and the building was declared safe.

The Center in Santa Ana was placed on lockdown when Santa Ana police received a call around 8:15 a.m. from a person inside the building claiming to have a gun, according to Chief David Valentin.

According to the police chief, the call came from a hospital ``network'' phone, confirming that the call was made from inside the building in the 1000 block of North Tustin Avenue.

Police search teams began scouring the building, beginning in the basement and working their way through the seven-story patient tower.

"Our intent here is to methodically search the entire facility and make sure that everyone is safe,'' Valentin said.

There were no reports of any shots being fired, and no injuries were reported.

The hospital was placed on lockdown.

Valentin said people concerned about friends or relatives ``can call in to check on your loved one, but please don't rush down here because we do have a lockdown (of the hosptial). Trust that we are working through this situation to stabilize it as quickly as possible.''
