Secret Service budget asks for $25M to protect Trump Tower

- The Trump administration wants more money to protect President Donald Trump's signature New York skyscraper, add hundreds of new Secret Service agents and bolster security at the White House.

A new budget proposal to Congress this week provides the first look into the administration's request for a full year's worth of extra protective resources under Trump.

About $25 million will go toward protecting Trump Tower.

First lady Melania Trump and their son, Barron, currently live there. Barron plans to attend school in suburban Washington this fall.

The president has frequently stayed at his namesake properties beyond the White House since he took office, adding to protection costs.

The budget request also seeks $1.3 billion in new Secret Service staffing, including 453 new special agents and uniformed officers.
