Ontario Police Officer Michael Gracia is in critical but stable condition after undergoing emergency surgery Monday morning.

Gracia and his fiancée, Summer Clyburn, were among the hundreds of victims shot during an outdoor country music festival on the strip. The couple's friends have started a GoFundMe account to help with medical expenses as Gracia begins his road to recovery.

According to the GoFundMe page, Gracia was shot in the head and Clyburn was reportedly shot trying to protect her fiance after he went down. Her injuries were considered non-life threatening, police said.

Gigi Graciette with our sister station FOX 11 Los Angeles said Gracia remains in critical condition but gave his chief a thumbs up sign.

"The love between those two are real and they are new parents and new parents shouldn't be going through this," friend Jesse Rivera said on the GoFundMe page.

Nearly $60,000 has been raised for the couple as of Tuesday morning.

"Please keep Officer Gracia and his family and the families of all the victims in your thoughts and prayers," Ontario Police said.

Gracia has worked as an officer for Ontario Police for four years. He previously worked as a cadet and jailer before becoming a police officer.
