John Mina elected Orange County's next sheriff

- John Mina, who has served as Orlando's Chief of Police since 2014, has been elected Orange County’s next sheriff.  He replaces Jerry Demings, who was elected Orange County Mayor in August. 

Mina, 50, defeated retired Florida Highway Patrol Chief Joe Lopez and entrepreneur Darryl Sheppard.

Mina has been with OPD for 27 yearsm and his retirement as police chief is effective Dec. 1.  His replacement, Orlando Rolon, was officially sworn in as the city’s 39th chief last month.
