WINTER GARDEN, Fla. (NSF) - Three weeks away from a special election, Orlando Democrat Eddy Dominguez has emerged as a replacement candidate to run in Orange County's House District 44.
Dominguez qualified Wednesday to run in the Oct. 10 election after Democratic candidate Paul Chandler withdrew amid questions about his eligibility for the seat, according to the state Division of Elections website.
Orange County Democrats chose Dominguez as the replacement candidate, though Chandler's name will remain on the ballot because of the lateness of the change.
Gov. Rick Scott called the special election after former Rep. Eric Eisnaugle, R-Orlando, resigned to become a judge on the 5th District Court of Appeal. Dominguez will face Winter Garden Republican Bobby Olszewski, who won a GOP primary last month.
