An 8-year-old child is on life support after a high-speed police chase in Fulton County.

East Point police said at about one Monday morning a 21-year-old armed woman, identified as Ana Christina Bolton of Atlanta, carjacked a black Dodge Challenger in Atlanta.

The car was spotted just before 3 p.m. Monday on Camp Creek Parkway and Marketplace Boulevard in East Point. Investigators said when officers tried to pull the woman over she took off, leading police on a more than eight mile pursuit.

Authorities said the chase was justified under the department’s policy.

Police said Bolton got to Fulton Industrial Boulevard and Boat Rock Road when she hit a Charger with three children and two adults inside along with a white pick-up truck.

“I heard screeching,” said Maurice Poythress who was driving the pick-up truck that was hit. “Looked to the side and there was a black car headed towards my way.”

Poythress said he did not have time to react, but when he got out of his truck he saw the other car with the children inside and became very concerned.

“Looked like it was just half of a car,” said Poythress. “In my mind I was like I hope no one is in the back seat and as I was on my way to the hospital I found out that it was a little eight-year-old in the back and that just tore me up.”

Authorities said the boy was taken to the hospital where he remains on life support, according to Fulton County police. The other children and adults are expected to be OK.

The 21-year-old driver of the stolen car faces a number of charges, including fleeing and eluding.
