Passenger impaled by fence post in Orlando car crash

A passenger who was impaled by a metal fence post during a car crash remains in critical, but stable, condition at Orlando Regional Medical Center.  The driver of the vehicle has been arrested, authorities say.

Orlando police officers say the driver lost control of the car, ran off Willie Mays Parkway, and crashed in Willie Mays Park just after noon on Wednesday.  Both the driver and the passenger were taken to the hospital.

Investigators have charged the driver, Mikhail Cannon, 18, with motor vehicle grand theft of the third-degree, a felony that carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison.  The passenger has been identified as 18-year-old Smandre Law.

The crash is under investigation.
