Police say Joshua Simpkins, 19, was grinding pork at a Golden Corral on S. Kirkman Road, Thursday morning, when a co-worker heard screaming.
The coworker saw Simpkins' bleeding hand and told someone to call 911.
Reportedly, the restaurant staff had cleaned the area and thrown the remains of the fingers and ground pork away by the time police officers and firefighters arrived.
An officer reported that the fingers on Simpkins's left hand, with the exception of the thumb, had been ground off. He was taken to a nearby hospital in stable condition.
A restaurant spokeswoman said in a statement that an OSHA investigation found that safety procedures and training were in order, and the equipment was working properly.
