'Oh, I'm gonna die' thought woman who survived stabbing
A man charged with attempted felony murder made his first appearance in court on Monday. Deputies said Douglas Reed tried murdering a senior citizen.
"I had finished mowing my front grass and come in for a drink of water, and he apparently followed me in," Lou Fisher explained.
Fisher, 69, can't believe she's alive after being viciously attacked in her own home on Saturday.
According to Orange County deputies, the 48-year-old Reed tried to kill her during the robbery. Reed is charged with Attempted Felony Murder and Robbery With A Deadly Weapon.
Investigators said Reed used a box cutter to slit Fisher's throat, then tried to smother her with a pillow from her couch.
"Luckily, my glasses had scrunched the pillow, so it wasn't directly on my nose, so I could get a little bit of air."
The senior citizen said she kicked and yelled as loud as she could.
"I was screaming, 'I'll get you money! I'll get you money!"
She said she wrapped a towel around her neck and pointed to her car keys, so she could go and get more money. "Oh, I'm gonna die," she thought.
As the suspect looked for her car keys, Fisher said she ran out the door and across the street to her neighbor who then called 911.
"I was bleeding all down my front."
She believes an angel was looking out for her.
"This is a miracle, just one more little inch, and I'd be gone. It would be over."
She said she is glad Reed is behind bars.
"I want him to go to jail for a very long time, hopefully till I'm gone, because now I'm afraid."
But despite such a horrific tragedy, Fisher said she is seeing everything clearer than ever before, especially with the glasses that helped save her life.
"They're a little crooked, but thank God, I'm a lucky woman."
Fisher is a retired nurse who is extremely grateful to everyone who cared for her and dropped off meals.
"I'm not on any medication, but I think I'm high on life right now, because I'm glad to have life. So I think that's it. I'm high on life right now, just glad to be here."
Fisher said she also cut her hand, trying to keep the box cutter away from her neck. She said she is now focused on recovering.
