Pulse memorial items taken to history center

- Workers with the Orange County Regional History Center have removed the last of the nonperishable items that made up a makeshift memorial to the Pulse shooting victims outside Orlando's new performing arts center.

The banners, flags, stuffed animals and signs were taken Monday by the history center's staff so they can be documented and preserved.

The memorial outside the Dr. Phillips Performing Arts Center was one of three makeshift memorials created around downtown Orlando to honor the Pulse victims.

The others were at the nightclub itself and the hospital where many patients were taken.

Forty-nine white crosses that made up the hospital memorial also were taken to the history center for preservation.

Gunman Omar Mateen opened fire at Pulse on June 12, killing 49 patrons and injuring another 53 people.
