Drone helps nab accused burglar in Daytona Beach

Daytona Beach Police responded to reports of a possible burglary at 723 N. Oleander Ave on Wednesday.

Once on scene, officers said they spotted Anthony Rivers Jr., 23, pacing around the pool area of the residence. When the suspect spotted police, he bolted, scaling a 15- foot fence.  At that point, he climbed onto a roof and jumped from one roof to another in an effort to escape.

The Daytona Beach Police Department’s Aviation Unit deployed one of its drones and the suspect was immediately spotted.  The suspect then jumped onto the roof of a travel trailer and was arrested.

This is the first time a drone from the department’s Aviation Unit has assisted in the capture of a suspect.
