Construction worker killed by piece of steel on Interstate 4

- Officials say a 63-year-old construction worker died when a piece of steel struck him on a site just off of Interstate 4 near Orlando.  The accident happened Monday afternoon along the I-4 Ultimate makeover.

SGL Subcontractors spokesman Russ Handler says the company is "deeply saddened" by his death and officials are focusing on supporting the workers and family members.

Handler says work on the project stopped after the incident but was expected to begin again on Tuesday. He says the man was a subcontract employee.

Altamonte Springs police spokeswoman Evelyn Estevez says the accident appears to be accidental.

The company is assisting in the investigation.
