Married couple charged in infant's death

Almost one month after a three-month-old boy died, a man with a criminal history and his wife have each been charged in the infant's death.

Brian Hampson, who was arrested on June 10 by Brazoria County Sheriff's Office deputies and Brazoria County Precinct 3 deputy constables, is being held on a $750,000 bond after he was charged with injury to a child by act causing serious bodily injury or mental deficiency, a first-degree felony.

Gisela Hampson, a Swiss national, was arrested on June 15 and charged with abandoning/endangering a child (imminent danger), a second-degree felony. She is in custody on a $350,000 bond.

The deputies and deputy constables arrived to a home on Amoco Drive South in Alvin on June 2 in response to an ambulance dispatched because of a report of an unresponsive infant. Law enforcement officers and Manvel Emergency Medical Servcies were not able to resuscitate the baby, who was pronounced dead at 1:48 a.m. on June 3.

The infant had suffered bruising to the face from his temple to his cheek. An autopsy conducted at the Galveston County Medical Examiner's Office determined the infant suffered blunt force head trauma and a fractured skull.

Deputies learned during the investigation that Brian, 37, was convicted of a similar charge in 1999 in Florida.
