Manhunt for suspect accused of killing his mother in Winter Garden

A manhunt continues in West Orange County. Winter Garden police say a man killed his mother inside her home. Now, police are trying to capture him.

It happened in the Winter Garden RV Resort at the intersection of West Colonial Drive and Park Avenue.

Police are trying to find Michael Shemansky, 35. Detectives say he is their suspect in the murder of his mother, Sandra Shemansky, 57. The crime scene is a travel camper where Mrs. Shemanksy lived in the RV resort in Winter Garden.

Lt. Scott Allen says security cameras put Mr. Shemansky at the crime scene.

He says, "We do have video from the location where they live, of him leaving on foot, and we are trying to find him."

Lt. Allen says Saturday night, officers went to check on Mrs. Shemansky after her son in Michigan called to say he could not contact her. They found her dead inside the camper. Lt. Allen says her injuries indicate it was murder, and detectives have recovered what they believe is the murder weapon.

Dawn Norat lives at the RV resort. She knew the victim and her son.

"She was just really nice. She was just a sweet lady who would say hello. She sat outside with him and was social. She was just nice."

Police tell Fox 35 that Mr. Shemansky has a history of mental illness. The arrest warrant says he tried to harm himself about one year ago.

Mike Foley lives at the park too. He is not afraid knowing a murder suspect is on the run.

Foley says, "Domestic violence can happen anywhere. It doesn't make a difference if it's a trailer park or million dollar homes in Windermere."

Lt. Allen says the medical examiner did an autopsy on Sunday. Police say if you see Michael Shemansky, call 911 right away.
