Man firing gun in parking lot shot by off-duty police officer

Orlando police are investigating a shooting involving an off-duty officer in front of a nightclub early Sunday morning.

Police said around 2:40 a.m., off-duty officers were working at Club Lux at 5688 International Drive, when someone started firing shots.

The officers were trying to clear the parking lot when they saw a man shooting off a gun outside the club, officials said.

The officer fired his weapon at the man who was injured in the exchange.  The man, who has not been identified by police, was taken to an area hospital to be treated for his injuries.

Police said the officer who fired his weapon was not hit and no one else in the parking lot was injured.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement took over the investigation and the officer who fired his gun was put on paid administrative leave, which is standard procedure, officials said.
