Investigators say Robert Corchado's truck rear-ended another car which then slammed into a Kindercare on Goldenrod Road back in April.
Corchado, 29, is charged leaving the scene of an fatal accident and drug possession. Prosecutors are attempting to use another crash involving Corchado that happened four months earlier in Seminole County to prove his guilt in this daycare crash.
"In one case, he hits a parked car and has the forethought and knowledge to focus on the illegal narcotics that he has, and he takes that knowledge and he tries to get rid of the drugs," said Ryan Williams, Assistant State Attorney, Ninth Judicial Circuit."In our case, he was more concerned about the injury or death that occurred, having seen a vehicle drive into a daycare full of children that afternoon, that he was so freaked out about that that he left the drugs behind."
Lily Quintus, 4, died in that Kindercare crash, and several other children were injured.
Corchado's trial is set to begin on December 1, barring any delays.
