LAKE MARY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - A woman was killed while walking along Lake Emma Road in Lake Mary Thursday morning, according to police.
Investigators say a pickup truck was heading south when all of a sudden it jumped the median, crossed into oncoming traffic and then drove onto the sidewalk at the exact moment 31-year-old Priya Pachauri was taking a walk there.
It happened on Lake Emma Road near Exchange Place at around 6:45 a.m. Police say the victim’s husband showed up at the scene.
“The husband knew his wife went out for a walk and didn’t return and saw the police activity outside and was able to flag down one of the law enforcement officers on scene just to say that his wife’s missing and that’s how, unfortunately, we came in contact with him,” explained Sgt. Joe Gowen.
Police say they know four teens were inside the truck when it crashed and they weren’t hurt. They don’t yet know exactly what happened but say they do have at least one possibility.
“We do have a cursory report from a witness that there may be excessive speed involved but that’s something we need to track down and follow up on,” Gowen said.
Joe Lucas lives nearby and says lots of drivers speed through the area.
“Usually pretty fast traffic. When it gets to rush hour, a lot of traffic,” he said.
Police say they know who the teens inside the truck are, and they plan to interview them. So far, no one has been arrested.
