Woman shot while sitting in car on side of road

Neighbors living along Boy Scout Rd. in Apopka are on edge.

“I was on my porch last night. It was about 10 p.m. I heard a burst of gunfire. It sound automatic. It was about 10 to 12 shots.  It was a 3 to 5 second interval, and then it was about 4 to 5 louder shots, which I took to be shot guns,” said Sarah Griffin.

The Orange County Sheriffs Office is investigators after a 29-year-old woman was shot while stopped in her car on the side of the road.  Her car was riddled with bullet holes and she remains in critical condition.

Deputies say the woman was on her way home Thursday night, around 10 o’clock, when she pulled off to the side of the road for a phone call.

“She was on the phone, I believe with a friend of hers.  The friend heard five gunshots. The phone went dead, and that’s when the friend called 911,” a spokesperson for the Sherif's Office told FOX 35.

Investigators are now searching for the shooter and trying to figure out a motive.

Griffin lives a few doors down from where the victim was found injured in her car.  She says the shooting is all her neighbors are talking about.  They said they’ve never seen the car before and they’d never saw the girl before either.  One of my neighbors told me he heard a car speed away -- real life drama that’s too close for comfort.

“I heard the ambulance working on somebody saying he’s not going to make it or she’s not going to make it,” said Chase Unroe.

Detectives have not been able to talk to the victim yet.  Right now they’re asking for help from the public.  If you saw something or know anything about the shooting you’re asked to call the Orange County Sheriffs Office or Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS (8477).
