Woman fighting to keep her emotional support pig

A woman is fighting to keep her emotional support pig.

Hamlet is not any ordinary pig. Stacey Fox says that Hamlet is a pet and he is very special. She says that "he thinks he's a dog. He barks. He plays. He swims in his pool every day."

Stacey also says that Hamlet is "part of our family. I can't imagine having to get rid of him."  But, the Orange City Government is trying to make her do exactly that after they say they received a complaint that a pig was being kept in a residential zone.

Stacey Fox says that the city gave them a 2-week notice to get rid of Hamlet.

Hamlet is an emotional support animal though and he helps Stacey with her bipolar disorder and severe depression. So, she's appealed to city council under the Federal Fair Housing Act.

The city then had a change of heart and directed staff to amend the Code of Ordinances to include a process for allowing pigs and an other true support animal. Council still has to get this approved, but it looks like Hamlet will be able to stay home.
