Woman, child struck on Orange Blossom Trail

Troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol say a woman and one child were struck by a vehicle as they were crossing the road near the intersection of Orange Blossom Trail and Holden Avenue. The relationship between the two was not immediately known.

The woman was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center and the child transported to Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children; both were in critical condition.   People who were at the scene believe the pair are mother and child, but this has not been confirmed by authorities. Witnesses said they saw them step into the crosswalk before they were hit by a black car.

"A lot of people were gathering around.  People were trying to call the police. I think eight or nine people were calling," said Trevon Cleveland.  "People were trying to talk to the woman as she was on the ground, but I think she was fading in and out of consciousness."

Authorities said the driver of the car did stop.  FHP is investigating.
