SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - Aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, resisting an officer with violence, unlawfully taking a law enforcement officers firearm, firing a weapon in public, are just some of the charges against a Florida woman.
Investigators say Danielle Trudell tried shooting a Seminole County sheriff's deputy with his own gun on Wednesday morning, following a struggle that came after he had noticed the woman in her car, slumped over the steering wheel.
"She was unconscious initially, but then did start to respond to him. She indicated she was fine the tried to put the keys in the ignition and start the vehicle. He of course realizes she's under the influence of something," said Sheriff's Office spokesperson Kim Cannady.
Investigators say their deputy ordered Trudell to put her keys down and step out of the car, instead she started the car put the gear in drive. Deputies say with the car in drive Trudell hopped over to the passenger seat trying to escape. so the deputy jumped into her car, put his foot on the break, slamming the car into park. SCSO says as their deputy tried getting a hold of Trudell, the two spilled out into the parking lot,, the deputy put Trudell in a bear hug from behind up against her car, but somehow she was able to get a hand free and pull the trigger on the deputy's gun while it was still in the holster.
"He indicated that he could feel it through the holster, the heat and the vibration radiate through his hip," said Cannady.
The bullet went into the ground. Investigators say Trudell then took off running but she didn't get very far.
"It was a very serious situation. Had he been at a different angle we don't know what could have happened, it could have struck him in the leg," said Cannady.
Deputies say they found fentanyl and drug paraphanelia in Trudell's car. She's now being held at the Seminole County Jail without bond.
