DELAND, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - A DeLand woman has been accused of stealing $12,000 dollars' worth of jewelry.
Nancy Brinkoetter, whose husband owns a jewelry repair shop on South Spring Garden Avenue, admitted on Thursday that she stole the jewelry to pay for her husband's cancer medications, according to the Volusia County Sheriff's Office.
One customer, Sandra Porter, planned to give her daughter a special bracelet for her 30th birthday. The mother and veteran took it to the jewelry shop to be repaired, along with other valuable items. Months later, she said a deputy called her to inform her that her jewelry had been found at a local pawn shop. Porter said she just wants her items back.
Brinkoetter is charged with seven counts of grand theft and three counts of dealing in stolen property.
