Woman, 3 kids dead following crash in DeLand

Troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol are investigating a fatal crash which claimed the lives of a woman and three children.  The incident happened around 12:30 p.m. at State Road 44 and Grand Avenue in DeLand.

According to the FHP, the woman was driving eastbound on SR 44 in a Jeep Wrangler when the vehicle collided with a Ford Explorer that had crossed into its path. The Wrangler rolled and became engulfed in flames.  One other vehicle is also believed to have been involved in the crash.  The conditions of the occupants of the other vehicles was not immediately known.  The identity and the ages of the victims have not been released, so it was unknown if the deceased were members of the same family.  SR 44 remains closed while the FHP investigates.
