Winter Park considers security barriers

- Winter Park is considering new security measures to keep pedestrians safe and to deter the types of terrorist attacks seen around the world in recent weeks and months, where vehicles become  "weaponized," when the suspect drives into a crowd.

City leaders are looking at placing solid bollards, or posts, along roadways that would be more substantial than folding barricades the city currently uses for street festivals.

One proposal calls for the bollards to be placed in the street, below ground, which could be pulled into an upright position when needed.   Some estimates put the cost at implementing the bollards at a price tag of approximately $580,000.
