WINTER GARDEN, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - Winter Garden police say a three-year-old boy was treated at a local hospital after a driver struck him and then took off Monday night. Police are still looking for that person. Winter Garden police tell FOX 35 that a passing car clipped the boy on East Cypress Street after his brother bought him an ice cream from an ice cream truck.
We talked to 16-year-old Luis Garcia outside the Winter Garden Police Station. "He hit my brother and stopped and then took off," he said. "This car had passed by and he was going pretty fast, and he hit my brother on the side like by his front light, and my brother fell down."
Police say a silver Chrysler 300 sedan is the car involved in the hit-and-run. Lt. Scott Allen said the driver abandoned the car in the parking lot of a nearby Elks Club. Witnesses say the driver is a white man.
Garcia scrambled to help his brother after he was struck. "I just went to grab him, and I wanted to see if he was ok and take him to my mom and see if he was good."
Lt. Allen says the boy has road rash from being knocked to the ground, and he is being treated at a local hospital. Garcia wants the driver who ran to be caught. "I hope they find him. That was pretty bad what he did."
Police tell FOX 35 they will search the car for fingerprints and other evidence, and they will interview the car's owner. Then they will decide where to go with the investigation.
