Wife distraught after husband injured in hit-and-run

ST. CLOUD, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - A wife is heartbroken at the thought of losing her husband.

"You left my husband on the side of the road for dead. A car could've run over him, and killed him just like that."

Those are the words Carmin Venable has for the driver whom police say hit her husband Friday morning in St. Cloud.  Venable had just left her husband's side at Osceola Regional Medical Center when we spoke to her hours later.  

She says her husband was on his way to work when he was struck on his motorcycle at the intersection of U.S. 192 and Delaware Avenue.

Surveillance video from a nearby business caught the violent hit and run on camera. You see the motorcycle pull out and then get slammed into, but the car keeps going. St. Cloud police say the motorcyclist had the right of way. Carmin says she's just grateful her husband, Joe Venable, made it out alive.

"It's just his leg and his ankle. It can all be fixed, ya know? Thank God."

Investigators believe the driver of the car was impaired and say charges are pending against that driver. Venable says her husband had to have surgery but is, otherwise, in good spirits.

"Nervous, but thankful he's alive cause it could've been worse." The name of the driver in this case has yet to be released.
