Volusia County deputies are investigating after someone allegedly began targeting college students for people trying to trick them out of their money.
One woman says she got ripped off when she was asked to pay a filing fee for her loan application.
Cynthia Williams had been applying for student loans to help pay for her studies.
Williams’ says she got a phone call from someone saying she had been approved for $2,000 but that's when things went downhill.
According to the report she filed with the Volusia County Sheriff's Office, the caller asked for a $200 processing fee for the loan but once she sent the cash, she never received her loan.
Williams says the caller used a New York number and claimed to be a loan company.
