University of Florida students develop device that detects card skimmers

- Skimmers steal your money with just a simple swipe. However, a new device, developed by students at the University of Florida, could stop them in their tracks.

The device is called the skim reaper and it kind of looks like an oversized credit card. It slides into card reader slots and can easily detect if there's a skimmer inside.

Most skimmers work by installing an extra "read head" inside a machine. This lets criminals make copies of card information as it's swiped. So the skim reaper, detects those extra "heads."

The creators are from the University of Florida and they've been testing the program in New York. They say its been very successful.

The devices are still being developed, so you can't buy one yet.

The creators say their mission now is to make the devices "wallet-sized."
