Tropical wave to deliver rain, wind gusts to Florida

MIAMI (WOFL FOX 35) - An area of disturbed weather is moving through the northwestern Bahamas and is expected to move over Central Florida over the next two days.

"A soggy summer pattern will turn extra wet, starting tomorrow [Tuesday] and for a portion of the week," said FOX 35 Chief Meteorologist Glenn Richards.  “Some coastal areas here in Central Florida could receive over six inches of rain."

The tropical wave is moving at 5 to 10 mph.  Forecasters say that, although the system could become better organized once it moves over warmer waters of the Gulf Stream, it is not expected to develop into a tropical cyclone.

Its proximity to land and strong upper-level winds will prevent further development as the system moves inland over southeastern Florida on Tuesday morning.  However, locally heavy rainfall and gusty winds are possible over portions of the central and southern Florida peninsula on Tuesday and Wednesday.
