Temporary memorial proposed for Pulse site
ORLANDO, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - The future of the temporary and permanent Pulse Memorial was discussed on Monday before Orlando city leaders and the public.
A town hall meeting took place, to collect ideas for a permanent Pulse Memorial. Earlier in the day, Orlando City Council voted to approve a temporary Pulse Memorial to make it a more comforting place for those paying their respects.
Pulse Nightclub owner Barbara Poma says, "I think it's a way to help the community heal and move forward. I also think the community needs a more dignified and respectful place to pay their respects. The lives that were taken that day, they deserve a respectful place."
Renderings of the temporary memorial were unveiled. It includes a new fence around the nightclub, as well as landscaping, murals, benches and more.
"Be closer to building. A place to leave items, write a message. A place to sit and spend some time there. More of a park like look."
Poma says it will be a while before the permanent memorial is created.
"We do have to raise some money."
