Teen struck, killed by SunRail train in Sanford

- Police are investigating after a pedestrian was struck by a SunRail train in Sanford.  That person, which authorities have identified as 13-year-old Marcees Kilpatrick, died from his injuries.

Kilpatrick was walking his bicycle across the railroad tracks around 6 p.m. on Friday, when he was struck.

"It's sad," said neighbor Tammy Spivey. "It's too much stuff been going on, people been losing their lives around here and for a child to get hit by a train?"

Officials with SunRail say there were 62 passengers on board the train when the accident happened.  Those passengers remained on the train for hours during the investigation.

"What we do know is that this is a commonly used walking path that connects one neighborhood to the other, and a lot of pedestrians," explained Sanford Police spokesperson Bianca Gillett.

SunRail trains were in a holding pattern for some time.   Authorities said there is video of the incident which they will review, to determine exactly what led to this fatality.
