LEESBURG, Fla. (FOX 35 WOFL) - A deputy-involved shooting happened on Melrose Avenue in Leesburg after receiving a home invasion call.
Deputies say that upon arrival, the suspects were still inside, armed and dangerous. A man with a gun fired at the deputies. A deputy returned fire, hitting the suspect, identified as 23-year-old Sebastian Duane Bradwell. He was taken to the Orlando Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. Another suspect, identified as 20-yaer-old Kailon Maurice Harris-Caldwell, was also arrested at the scene.
No deputies were hurt. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating, which is standard practice in deputy-involved shootings.
Investigators say that they are getting conflicting information on the scene. One person, identified as 29-year-old Jeffrey Robert Geiger, alleges that they were kidnaped by the two suspects in Tavares and that while on the way to the home invasion, the suspect and Geiger were able to part ways. Geiger ran away and called 911, which is how deputies were able to respond to the scene.
Investigators also said that they are familiar with the property, as there has been many encounters with drug arrests there in the past.
