SunRail to run on Saturdays for 4 months

- SunRail is now expanding its transit to the weekend. Trains run time is usually limited to Mondays through Fridays but, starting October 8, you can board SunRail on Saturdays.

The plan is to offer the community rides to local events, such as Orlando's "Come Out With Pride," and a Garth Brooks concert, both scheduled for Oct. 8, as well as the Autumn Winter Park Festival, on Oct. 8-9.

The Saturday service is expected to run from noon to midnight. According to officials, it costs SunRail $20,000 to operate each Saturday.

SunRail has already raised more than $250,000 -- all through donations -- to test the new service for the next four months.

"We're going to have some flexibility to run the trains when it's the most sense, around the big events that we have," said Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer.

The SunRail service goes beyond just downtown.  There are a number of festivals in DeBary coming up and SunRail serves as an alternative to parking on Park Avenue in Winter Park during the busy holiday shopping season.

Dyer added, "Our fundraising is not complete."
