SunRail delayed after train strikes bicyclist

SunRail is delayed due to an incident, reportedly involving a bicyclist, in Winter Park.

The incident occurred just before 4 p.m. near the Fairbanks Avenue crossing.  The train was on a southbound route with 77 passengers and two crew members onboard. No injuries were reported on the trail, transportation officials say.  The condition of the bicyclist is not immediately known; however, authorities say he was alive when transported to an area hospital.

"Efforts are underway to move the train involved out of the intersection. Efforts are also underway to use bus transport around the incident scene between the Winter Park station and the Florida Hospital station," said Florida Department of Transportation spokesman Steve Olson.

That train trip southbound has been canceled. The train was scheduled to turn northbound from Poinciana at 4:45 p.m. That train trip has been canceled as well. One other southbound train is delayed at this point.
