Students attempts self-harm at Lake Minneola High School

Lake County Schools has reported that a Lake Minneola High School student went onto campus Wednesday night and attempted to harm himself.

The student is said to have been transported to the hospital. Lake County Schools hopes he has a full recovery.

Last month, a student killed himself at Lake Minneola High School in the school's bus loop.

Lake County Schools wants to urge young people and their families to reach out for help when they feel troubled. Those in crisis can call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-173-TALK. Parents and students can also call the district's Student Services Department for assistance, support, and resources at 352-742-6920.

Lake County Schools has also provided a list of risk factors and warning signs HERE.

Lake County Schools say they are also working with the City of Minneola and LifeStream Behavioral Center to host R.E.A.C.H (Resiliency through Education and Community Health). This is a resource fair designed to coordinate support for students, parents, families, and friends in light of recent youth suicides in our community.

Attendees will receive information about suicide prevention and how to care for young people after a suicide attempt or the death of a loved one.

The public is invited to attend the event at Lake Minneola High School, 101 N. Hancock Road, Minneola, on Monday, Dec. 18, at 6 p.m. in the school auditorium. On-site child care will be provided by the Early Learning Coalition of Lake County.
