A 14-year-old student who claimed she was stabbed by a man while walking to her bus stop on Friday morning, fabricated the story, according to deputies.

The teenager told investigators that she was attacked while walking in the area of Sterling Park Elementary School in Casselberry.   She was taken to a hospital for treatment of wounds to her abdomen.

Deputies with the Seminole County Sheriff's Office spent hours searching the area for a suspect and for evidence in the case.  Additional deputies were also deployed to school bus stops around the same time that Seminole County Public Schools sent out this warning to parents:

Dear SCPS Families,

We wish to make you aware of a situation that has occurred this morning in the Casselberry-area near the vicinity of Sterling Park Elementary.  A female High School student walking to her bus stop this morning was approached and stabbed by an unknown male.  The student was taken to the hospital and police are currently in the area searching for the suspect.

We ask that ALL our Casselberry families that have students that ride the bus, walk or bike to school to be extra vigilant this morning!

"Upon further investigation and upon talking to victim, we discovered that the wounds were self-inflicted," said Sheriff's Office spokesperson Kim Cannaday.  "We want residents to know this is still a safe area, and we will be providing the victim the help that she needs."

Cannaday said they do not expect any charges to be brought against the teen.
