Struggling dog gets second chance at life

Looking at little Robinson’s ever-wagging tail, you’d never know all that the happy hound-mix had been through. But a glance at the rest of him tells a sad story.

He’s very thin; he has a cast on his front left leg, a scar on the other and a large cone wraps around his neck wear a comfy collar should be.

That’s because two weeks ago, the 2-year-old white and brown-spotted dog was found on the side of the road with two broken legs. He’d likely been hit by a car and left for dead.

But then someone found him, and changed the ending to his story.

They took him to the shelter in Levy County, where he was almost euthanized, but staff decided he deserved special attention and a second chance at life.

And thanks to volunteers from Friends of Levy County’s Homeless Pets and PAWS Rescue in Seminole, that’s just what he got.

They rushed him to a local facility where he had surgery to repair his fractures, and received a cast to save one of his legs from being amputated.

He’s been on the road to recovery since, and while it’s been difficult, volunteers say nothing can keep him down.

“Robinson has an amazing spirit,” said Barbara Hastings, President and Founder of PAWS.  “In spite of his severe and painful injuries, even after waking up from the long surgery, Robinson’s tail never stops wagging! His happy, goofy personality shines through every day that he is in our care. He is a one-of-a-kind dog.”

Robinson- named by PAWS staff after the tough castaway, Robinson Crusoe- will remain in their care while he recovers. Then, they have big plans for him.

“After Robinson completely heals, we will be seeking a very special family who can give him the love and attention he deserves after his horrendous first year of life,” said Hastings.
