Storms in northeast impacting travel here in Florida

Effects of a massive storm on the east coast were being felt in Central Florida, with delays and cancellations at Orlando International Airport.

Jody Colombe and her family, visiting from Michigan, had been having a great time visiting Orlando, until today. “So now, because of the storms out connecting flight to Charlotte is cancelled,” Colombe explained, “so we have to be back here at 3:30 in the morning!”

Not far away was Jane Gallagher-Reid, trying to make it to New England. “I just found out that American Airlines from here to JFK is late,” Gallagher-Reid said, “so I won't make my connection from JFK to Boston!”

The huge nor'easter grounded or held up flights across the country. Airport officials said there were 68 cancellations and 95 planes delayed on Friday.

Airport officials say the most useful thing to do is check your flight status before you get to the terminal, so you don't find yourself stuck there. They also recommend rebooking your flight before getting to the airport, if you see that there's changes. They add that if you are at the airport and your flight is canceled, call or go online to rebook your flight and please ‘pack your patience!’

“There are a lot worse things that can happen in life,” Gallagher-Reid quipped, “right?”
