Standoff ends with suspect's arrest

- A standoff between a suspect in an armed carjacking and a SWAT team with the Orange County Sheriff's Office has ended.

Just before 4 p.m. on Thursday, deputies were trying to contact Giovanni Medina, 22, when he barricaded himself inside a home near Columbia Street and S. Westmoreland Drive.  After numerous attempts to call Medina out of the home, members of the SWAT team were called in to help.

Deputies were able to subdue Medina using a non-lethal weapon, according to a Sheriff's Office spokesperson.  Medina was taken into custody and transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center for evaluation.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement will be conducting an investigation.
